The Space
Folktales Residency is an old traditional wooden house nestled within a picturesque Rakchham village, it finds itself ensconced amidst the serene beauty of an apple orchard. This abode’s most prominent features are accentuated by the Baspa river, which rushes fervently in close proximity, and the commanding presence of the majestic Shoshala peak that stands as an awe-inspiring backdrop. This dwelling comprises a total of seven private rooms, each thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and intimacy to its guests. The rooms are adorned with cozy carpets, creating an inviting ambience. They are further enhanced by en-suite washrooms that ensure the provision of hot water.
Among its notable offerings, the house boasts a separate art studio, tailored to cater to the needs of artists seeking inspiration amidst the natural splendor. A common room, reminiscent of tradition, serves as a communal dining area where the joys of shared meals can be savored. This space is enriched by an eclectic assortment of books and board games, fostering an environment of leisurely engagement and intellectual enrichment. In summation, this wooden haven encapsulates a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary amenities, providing a haven of comfort and artistic stimulation in the heart of the Himalayas.

- We do not restrict access to any part of the house. Kindly make sure that no damage to the property is done.
- Folktales is a Co-living Space, Please be kind and friendly to other guests who might be staying on the property. Please refrain from playing loud music and talking loudly that might cause disturbance to others.
- Lights Out/ Silence Zone from 10:30 PM till 8:00 AM
- Please keep your rooms and surroundings clean. Refrain from using outside slippers and shoes inside the homestay.
- Food will only be served in the common dining area.
- The guests can use the coffee maker/ water kettle available on the ground floor.
- Since we are located in a hilly terrain, we do experience occasional Wi-Fi disruptions. If you are looking to work from the property, please carry your own portable Wi-Fi devices. Airtel and Jio 4G networks are available in the area.
- The Homestay reserves the right to refuse accommodation to anyone after making a booking, or even after arrival, if found incompatible or uncomfortable.
- Heaters (Rs. 300/night) and hot water bag are available on request.
- Please do not feed the wildlife. You may see occasional monkeys, red foxes, martins, a lot of birds, and in some rare cases, bears and leopards. In such cases, stay calm and enjoy their presence at the homestay. Please do not provoke them by shouting or making loud noises. Do remember that we humans are actually in their territory, so when they come rummaging once in a while, please be respectful of them.
- Since the homestay is surrounded by apple orchards, the guests are requested to not venture into them and pluck the apples without the owner’s permission.
- The Homestay management is not responsible for any loss of life or properties or injuries you may sustain during your stay with us.
- We try to maintain the highest standards in hosting which includes the smooth functioning of all the amenities. However, since it is a hilly terrain and manpower resources are difficult to arrange on short notice, please bear with us as we try to do our best in case any amenities malfunction during your stay with us.
- Please consider the Homestay as your own home. Do not hesitate to ask if you require anything during your stay with us. We will try our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible with our limitations as a Homestay.
- Guests need to give prior intimation to the caretaker if they wish to use the kitchen.
- Smoking inside the homestay is strictly prohibited. The entire structure is made up of wood and smoking will be a serious fire hazard.
- The guests are requested to maintain peace and calm of the homestay.
